Remembering the Afzaal family: One year later
On June 6, 2021, the deadly attack on a London Muslim family out for an evening walk shocked and saddened Canadians across the country.
This hateful, terrorist attack on the Afzaal family was motivated by Islamophobia.
It was a painful reminder of the danger that hatred and anti-Muslim sentiment poses to the safety and well-being of Canadian Muslims and other racialized communities.
This level of hate has had lethal consequences before. Just five years ago, six Quebec Muslims were gunned down in a place of worship.
The Canadian Race Relations Foundation is committed to ensuring that perpetrators of hate face justice and that victims are provided with the support they need. Learn more about our recently announced Task Force on Hate Crimes.
All Canadians deserve to feel protected and safe.
As we come together to remember the Afzaal family, the CRRF encourages all Canadians to recommit to confronting Islamophobia and all forms of hate and discrimination.
