Supporting diverse voices in Canadian media: Announcing the recipients of CRRF’s Media Fellowships Program
We are pleased to announce the recipients of the Canadian Race Relations Foundation’s new Media Fellowships Program.
With this initiative, the CRRF has awarded ten media organizations with a total of $775,000 in funding to build towards a more inclusive and diverse media landscape in Canada. Eight of the organizations have received support to hire journalists, reporters, columnists and storytellers and two have been granted funding to deliver innovative projects that support storytelling about the impact of racism.
The CRRF Media Fellowships Program will provide an opportunity for individuals from racialized communities and/or religious minorities to gain access to valuable learning and networking opportunities in Canada’s media landscape.
“Making space for more diverse voices and narratives allows Canada to match its stories with the many and varied lived experiences of all our communities. We need this now more than ever.”
Mohammed Hashim, CEO, CRRF
The program was developed through an extensive consultation process to align with industry standards and needs. The CRRF is grateful to the panel of experts who helped evaluate and shape this program: Nick Davis (Chair), Brandi Morin, Brian Daly, Carla Beauvais, Serena Mah, and Thierno Soumare, and we are grateful to all the organizations and individuals involved in making this vision a reality.
Investing in the careers of young journalists is not only an investment in their growth, but an investment in envisioning a society that includes so many more through new storytelling and more diverse perspectives.
