Honouring Truth, Investing in Belonging

On this Canada Day, we take time to celebrate the strength, diversity, and resilience of the people who make up this country. We also reflect on our shared history, including the hard truths that continue to shape our present.

Canada is a country built through treaties, migration, and the shared desire to build better. Many generations have made their homes here, building strong communities, sharing their stories, and shaping a unique blend of culture and strength.

At the same time, it is a country built on the colonization and displacement of Indigenous Peoples. That painful legacy continues today in the form of ongoing structural inequities, intergenerational trauma, and the denial of rights.

But Canada is also defined by its ability to grow, learn, and come together to make change. Indigenous communities are leading that change, revitalizing languages, protecting land and culture, and calling us all to build a more honest and respectful future. This work is at the heart of reconciliation and reflects the best of who we are as a country.

As a federal Crown corporation focused on fighting systemic racism in Canada, we know that equity and reconciliation must guide not only our values, but also our policies. That means ensuring everyone has fair access to housing, jobs, education, and opportunity –   especially communities that have long been excluded.

This year’s Canada Day comes during uncertain times. Around the world, many are facing war, economic hardship, and rising hate – and people here in Canada are feeling those impacts too. In hard times, building a fairer and more united country matters more than ever.

By helping to build more inclusive systems, we’re supporting a future where no one is left behind. A strong, sustainable future depends on full inclusion, where all who inhabit this land have a real voice and a real stake in the progress we make together.

Today is a time to celebrate and to honour truth by investing in belonging for every person and every community across this land.
