United Against Online Hate: A National Policy Forum on Combating Anti-Asian Racism

For this year’s Asian Heritage Month, the Coalition Against Anti-Asian Racism in Canada (CAAARC) and the Canadian Race Relations Foundation (CRRF) are excited to announce “United Against Online Hate: A National Policy Forum on Combating Anti-Asian Racism”. This virtual event is a response to a significant rise in online hate targeting Asian communities in the last few years. It aims to bring together experts, policymakers, community leaders and activists to discuss creating effective policies and finding solutions. This forum is also an opportunity to review the current policy landscape, share strategies that work, and plan actions to reduce online hate. 

Agenda Highlights:

• Opening Remarks: Introductions from CRRF/CAAARC leadership. 
• Understanding Anti-Asian Online Hate: Presentations and discussions on the current landscape of online hate towards Asian communities, featuring community insights and campaigns. 
• Moderated Panel Discussion on the Online Harms Bill: A dialogue on the Online Harms Bill, bringing together government representatives and community leaders and experts to explore implications and solutions. 
• Building Capacity for Online Hate Reporting: Creating actionable strategies and tools for tracking and reporting online hate. 
• Community Response to Combat Hate: Personal stories and initiatives from individuals on the front lines to share their perspectives on collective actions. 
• Closing Remarks: Reflections on the forum and outlining steps forward.
