The Path Toward Progress: A Year In Review

This has been a challenging year for millions of Canadians. We have witnessed tragedies, spikes in racial discrimination, and increased pessimism around race relations.  However, there are things we can be proud of too. As we approach the end of 2021, join the CRRF team to take a look back and reflect on the last 12 months we’ve experienced together and the accomplishments you helped happen.  Here are a few of those achievements:

• Five reports on race relations, residential schools, online hate speech, and Blackness in Canada.
  Nine webinars covering topics ranging from anti-Black racism and employment equity to anti-Asian racism and the media to hosting one of the most significant racial justice summits in Ontario.
• Provided close to $300,000 to 22 non-profit organizations and charities working on anti-racism initiatives across Canada through the Community Mobilization Fund.
• Adding nine new members from across the country to the CRRF team.
• Launching a nationwide social media campaign on the effects of online hate speech racialized women in Canada.

While we are proud and encouraged by the meaningful progress made in 2021, CRRF’s focus remains on the work that still needs to be done. This is just the beginning. We must continue to learn, grow, and work with community, government, and business with the same focus and zeal we had this year. We must push ourselves further, continue to have those tough conversations, work to really understand the complex nature of these systemic issues, and find meaningful concrete solutions.

There is a long road ahead. But our hope is that the work we do, in conjunction with many others, will serve as a catalyst and that these efforts will get to the root of systemic racism, sustaining over time and making an impact for generations to come. We have an opportunity to create a more fair, equitable, and just society – but it will take all of us. I hope you’ll join CRRF on this journey through 2022 and beyond.
