CRRF Launches New Podcast: The Healthcare Divide
[Toronto, November 15, 2023] – The Canadian Race Relations Foundation is excited to launch a groundbreaking new podcast series hosted by award-winning physician, and first Indigenous president to have led the Canadian Medical Association, Dr. Alika Lafontaine.
The Healthcare Divide explores the cracks in Canada’s healthcare system through conversations with guests ranging from healthcare workers, researchers and medical experts to patients, advocates and healthcare innovators from all over the country.
“The COVID-19 pandemic exposed devastating health inequalities that many Indigenous, Black and racialized peoples in Canada had been experiencing for decades. Our national promise of a healthcare system equitably accessible to all is one that we have never fulfilled. It’s long past time to bring this conversation into the spotlight and move it forward,” said Mohammed Hashim, CRRF Executive Director.
While a point of pride for some, Canada’s healthcare system fails many and falls short of ensuring equal access and quality care for all. From the antiquated but ongoing practice of “race correction” in Canadian hospitals, to the use of artificial intelligence in therapy, each of the six episodes of The Healthcare Divide offers up a fresh take on healthcare inequities and proposed solutions.
“I know from my own personal experience, and from the stories I hear from patients around the country that racism in healthcare is a deeply systemic issue. It can be a matter of life or death. But we can’t change it alone. This podcast brings people all over Canada into the discussion,” said Dr. Alika Lafontaine.
The Healthcare Divide was made possible through a grant provided by Pfizer Canada.
